I have read and understand the procedure for adjusting the sensor but can anyone tell me how it gets out of adjustment? Tags: None. Inexperienced people messing with it? The screws have a yellow "dork" paint on them from the factory to indicate if anybody has "dorked" with the sensor and disturbed the paint markings.

Do you have a service manual for your motor? Comment Post Cancel. Mike, I do have a manual and have read the test procedure but I don't have the harness to check it. How important is it--can I just probe the wires with the meter? I'm not sure it's my problem but it has been suggested that it may be causing an irratic idle.

After reading the test steps the first question in my mind was how could it be out of adjustment.???? It has never been moved based on the paint you refered to. I can understand if it's bad and needs to be replaced but -are there moving parts or does something wear out?

I didn't want to touch it and become one of the "Dorks" you refer to. I really would like to understand what I'm dealing with. Rico, yes if you have a service manual and you're comfortable playing with it you can just probe the pink and the orange wire or rig up a feed from the plug so you don't have to puncture anything. The measurement is taken with the throttle idle screw backed off. Only mess with the adjustment if the voltage reading is off.

If you're working on an HPDI, they idle rough anyway. Yamaha kills a couple of cylinders on the HPDIs in neutral. I didn't mean you were dorking with it. The only Yamaha I've ever seen idle smooth was a 4-stroke.

Thanks Mike, Appreciate your help. This is a '98 OX66 with a phase two installed--carbon reeds and modified cages. I was able to get readings by probing the wires but the adjustments would always change each time I ran the boat. I finally bought a new sensor and realized when I removed the old one, the armature behind the sensor was gummed up and wouldn't allow for a consistent reading.

Since i changed it, it's running good. Are the RPMs changing at all speeds or between certain ranges?Interested in talking motorbikes with a terrific community of riders? The Problem: Yam FZ6N dropped it about a month back, nothing serious just an balance issue, but since then have had an occasional problem with idling and low speed. The bike usually idles at aboutwill now idle occassionaly at about or under; ie it has a tendancy to cut out at the most inappropiate moments, like low speed lane splitting or waiting at the lights.

On the trips where the bike is misbehaving it seems to be running a little rough, normally the engine warning light also comes on.

Now the quick and easy fix has been to turn off the ignition and turn it back on, and everything seems hunky-dorey. No immediate causes spring to my mind since your bike is EFI.

Does it use a throttle position sensor TPS? This may have been knocked in your fall and could cause hunting at idle, but turning the ignition on and off wouldn't cure this. If you're certain that turning the ignition on and off does fix it, then it's obviously related to the ecu.

Looks like it could be a case for the dealer The power dropping away when accelerating sounds like a problem I had.

Does it come back and drop away, so it feels like you are on a rodeo bull? I also had to have some throttlewhen stopped at lights. The problem may be with your carbs, they may need balancing. When I had that problem I was switching between 2 and 4 cylinders, hence the bucking effect. The fz6 doesn't have carbs, its fuel injected.

The engine may be generating a weak spark, hence the low idling rpm.

This could be related to a dodgy rectifier or coil. As soon as that check engine light comes on, I'd be taking it to a dealer. This doesn't sound like the sort of problem that can be easily diagnosed. I'd be guessing a fuel line or fuel pump.

One may have been dislodged in the fall. Then, when you do find something you fancy, in my case Special K Red Berries, some arsehole has left the most piss poor amount in the box so that you can't possibly make a serving out of it.

Hi yes it is so true the first bit anyway, i regulary wonder from cupboard to fridge in the endless search of something tasty, only to be dissapointed and end up eating a bag of crisps, or allas nothing at all.

Mmm I had special K this morning. Usually I just mix it with some other random cereal if there's not enough. This is also true Ste.

Susi wrote: Scoob, so does pissing and not aiming correctly, but I don't see you complaining about it because I'm more than sure you're not the one who has to go back and try to scrub out the yellow dried dots of piss that lay on your toilet seat.

Just have to put them in the oven for 20 minutes and then I'll be set to stuff my face. Susi wrote: Scooby wrote: This is also true Ste. It's not necessarily a targeting issue, it could be the splash-back phenomenon. The whole not lifting the toilet seat thing is very old and tired, dunno about most blokes but if my aim's off i'll wipe the seat. Susi wrote:.I was instructed to check resistance at the yellow wire and black wire with the tps disconnected. I checked this and resistance could be adjusted to 7k ohms at idle and ramp to 17k wide open. Any one have a different spec? I am used to full size cars and V8 iron, and setting timing with a light. Thanks, and hello from Tx. I don't care if you make something up,take a stab at it. Cars, motorcycles and everything else under the sun.

Every throttle position sensor i've tried to check the way you are speaking of shows a different reading. Agreed on the dcv measure from the tps. That is how I am used to testing and adjusting all tps. However the Yamaha service manuals are consistent with their method of testing the tps.

Then their adjust procedure is not available to me as there is no instrument cluster to display OE ECM parameters. I have the ability to display waveforms, and or voltage ramps, and accurate resistance measures.

This tps I have is consistent in the resistance check, and the value and range is distinct from the previous year spec, and the 06 spec. The tps I have is likely just fine and I will work out the adjustment of the deal, no big thing.

It seems the tps function relates to ignition timing, I can compare ignition coil circuit switching to crank position pulses and adjust tps. When in the line up the drivers tend to blip the throttle, everybody's engine would rip up in rpm then drop back to idle, except ours. It would rip nicely then drop to or so then maybe ease back down to idle. After a close check I found the o-rings on the shaft for the billet tps spacer, were binding tight in the bore, and holding the two carbs adjacent to the tps just off idle stop.

I could raise the rpm at the throttle shaft and gently release to idle and then I could push the two right side carbs closed just a tad more. So the tps has been off, the orings rplaced on the shaft, now the tps needs checking and adjusted. The billet piece is not a stock item.

Novik shake hr

It is installed between the carb and tps to block alcohol vapors from attacking the tps. I understand the tps is used by the ECM for ignition mapping.

So on the outset it seems important for proper function. However if I determine it has no effect on ignition timing or if locking the timing at a predetermined advance is ok, then the tps deal is moot. Thank you for the info and or input.
